Tuesday Jun 02, 2020
Welcome to this week’s second episode of The Mindset Mentor Meets Podcast which hears Angela interviewing Sally Eley, Director at City & Guilds Foundation.
About our guest
Sally is foundation director at City & Guilds Group, a role that provides a strong sense of purpose. A French and sociology graduate Sally began her working life at P&O European ferries In Portsmouth with a goal of moving to the South of France and raising bilingual children on a ramshackle vineyard. As with most dreams at that age, her life took her nowhere near this direction and instead she found herself embarking on a PR and communications career where she realised she enjoyed the not for profit clients with clear social purposes attached to them far more than those focused more around bottom lines and share prices.
Over the last 25 years, Sally has shared her creative skill set with a wide range of organisations with strong social purposes both in an employed role and also as a consultant. Most recently she helped establish the City & Guilds Foundation which she now heads up. In her spare time Sally is mum to her (very much non Bilingual) 2 teenage daughters and is doing up her ‘project’ house in south-west London.
Goal-oriented, Sally loves being included and feeling part of something and more than anything enjoys spontaneous acts of fun and frivolity.
About this show
Sally shares how her proudest moments and life lessons openly and generously, including how her divorce impacted her. She describes how she has dealt with acute anxiety at times in her life and believes talking to people who have empathy is a key element of this.
For her, being able to let go of things or ideas she is wedded to when it's clear they aren't working is a lesson she has learnt along the way. Sally advises us to hold things lightly and be prepared to adapt and flex in order to benefit from things you can't see in the moment.
Sally's energy is infectious and it's bound to leave you enthused. .
An uplifting and inspiring half hour.
